Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a great facility overall, it also earned A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of short-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It performed better than most nursing homes in this area. Short-term care grades are often employed to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also above average in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It performed better than most facilities in this category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 98.95561 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we graded is this nursing home's poorest category. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still awarded it a respectable grade of B- in nursing. When computing a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared with most facilities. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused statistics. We especially like to look at the percent of residents who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these data points are indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care can reduce these problems.
