Facility Inspections
To pair with its decent overall score, we gave this facility a grade of A for its inspection grade. This is far better than its overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is certainly an excellent sign for this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
The next highest category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. Our long-term care ratings are based on a facility's volume of care. This includes a broad range of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 98.32134 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third most favorable area was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack grade in this category. In determining these short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. The facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
Nurse Quality
The final category we assessed is nursing, which is this facility's weakest category. It received an F for this category, which is certainly a major disappointment. When determining a facility's nursing score, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
