Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that area, with an A. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's better category grades came in the category of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this category. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 83.50825 percent of its residents. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of short-term care, this nursing home received just a D in that area. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Given its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this place is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the data we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the last category, this facility really didn't fare very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in nursing, this is its weakest grade. Nursing scores are largely based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found this place was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
