Facility Inspections
The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category, with an A+. This is a much better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection scores are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we also would like to note that this nursing home was given impressive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our better grades in this category, with a B+. This turned out to be the nursing home's second best score. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.96137 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third most favorable area turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are generally employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation To offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our final category, this nursing home did not perform very well. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is its poorest category grade. Our nursing rating features several factors. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. This facility averaged just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This number is quite a bit below average. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic dragged down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
