Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great facility is that it earned a very impressive short-term care score. In that category, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of A. Short-term care scores are important for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection scores are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. In computing our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the training levels of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a resident more frequently.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we looked at was this facility's poorest area. However, even in its worst category we still awarded it a decent grade of C in long-term care. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 97.8022 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
