Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Contributing to its profile, this facility also received a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.29078 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize negative health outcomes for the senior population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received an impressive short-term care score. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this category. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a reliable assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Georgia in this area with 56.2 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next area we scored proved to be this nursing home's worst category. However, even in its weakest link we still awarded it a decent grade of C in our nursing category. When determining a facility's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses are with patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in some of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are usually good indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
