Facility Inspections
The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that area, with an A. This is a notably better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but certainly not elite. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received a positive score in our long-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B+ in that area. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 94.265236 percent of its patients. This is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. The last datapoint we looked at is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 2.83 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this facility a favorable grade in nursing. This facility earned a grade of B in this category, which is one of our better grades. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the amount of time nurses are seeing patients and the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This place fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our last category, this facility didn't perform well. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is its worst category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. It appears that this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the staffing figures we considered. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 19.4 percent of its patients returning home.
