Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure residents are well cared for. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our fourth category, we awarded this facility a grade of D for the area of nursing. This was the facility's weakest category score. Naturally, this grade pulled down the facility's overall profile a bit. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are with patients and the level of skill of those nurses. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This statistic is quite a bit below average. On top of receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, this statistic pulled down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
