Facility Inspections
On top of being a great facility overall, it also earned A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections are virtually perfect. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category tend to have few severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded a fine long-term care grade. This actually ended up being this facility's second strongest category score. In that category, we gave this facility a score of A. When nursing homes receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility also was given favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we gave it one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B+. Short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. This place boosted its score in this area by offering more than one and a half times as many hours of physical therapy than the typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes with 54.3 percent of its residents able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The final area we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was awarded a very good nursing rating this year, with a B. While this wasn't quite as strong as several of its other grades, this remains one of the better scores for this area. The nursing category includes many factors, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident more often.
