Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our inspections category. This grade is much more impressive than the facility's overall score. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care grade, which was actually one of its more respectable category scores. Our short-term care ratings are critical for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home offers substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who eventually returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality
We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. In fact, we awarded it an D for that category, which is one of our best grades. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we scored was long-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in this area. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home gave the vaccine to 94.07895 percent of its patients, which is an above average statistic. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
