Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a C for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. This nursing home had 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in categories G through L. This tells you this facility dodged the more serious classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next most respectable score is short-term care, but it nevertheless received a grade of just D in that category. This is still a well below average score. Our short-term care grades are likely more critical for people in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we weren't stunned to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected here. The final metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing grade analyzes several factors, but the primary one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these datapoints to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we scored was long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a rock bottom grade in this category as well. It received an F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
