Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we gave it a B- for inspections. This score is better than this facility's overall grade. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. Nursing scores are primarily associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home offers an impressive 4.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, of which more than an hour of those were provided by registered nurses. Registered nurses are highly skilled nurses. Finally, we also factored in some quality-based assessments. This nursing home performed well in a few of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is usually an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its third most favorable category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this nursing home a B- in this area, which is an acceptable score. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. One reason for this nursing home's strong score in this category is that it provides more care from registered nurses than the average nursing home. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It fared well in this metric with 67.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our last category, this facility was awarded a grade of C for long-term care, which is a decent rating. Our long-term care ratings are more meaningful for people in need of more traditional assistance related to personal care. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 92.7835 percent of its residents. This is a bit below what we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.26 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
