With an overall grade this high, it should come as no surprise that this facility performed well in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. Nursing grades are largely based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 5.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility in the state in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these areas as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded an impressive short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average grade of B+ in this category. In our short-term care score, we attempt to craft a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This place provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was long-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. Even though this is its weakest category score, this is still a favorable grade. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
