Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home also received excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our highest grades in that category, with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. When computing our nursing ratings, we weigh both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also fared very well in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Only a select group of facilities received a better grade in this area. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we rated was long-term care. We awarded this facility one of our higher scores in that category, with a B. Although this was not as high as a few of its other scores, it is nevertheless a positive score. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. It does not appear that this nursing home submitted data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
