Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also received a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it a B in that area, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.70588 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. We gave this facility a score of D. In computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are caring for residents as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the final area, this nursing home really didn't fare well. With a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is this nursing home's weakest category grade. In computing these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the data we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
