Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although we were not high on this place's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B+. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid facilities that had a long list of deficiencies. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B-. In computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we consider the amount of time nurses are caring for patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. In crafting these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we analyzed was long-term care, where this nursing home received a rock bottom grade in this area also. We gave it an F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 93.862816 percent of its patients, which is a bit less than we were hoping for. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.
