Facility Inspections
We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this area with an A-. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility an impressive score in long-term care. This nursing home received a B in this category, which happens to be one of our more impressive scores. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. There are quite a few criteria included in this grade. Most of these criteria are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care. For that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. With our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We weren't able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this nursing home. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
