While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a B- for its long-term care grade, which really isn't too bad of a score. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated just 71.52318 percent of its patients. The last statistic we looked at was its hospitalization rate. While it had 3.05 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was more favorable.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. The nursing grade assesses many factors, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averaged only 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This place was above average in two of the major datapoints we considered, with good marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These datapoints are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care available.

The final area we graded was short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a poor score. In calculating our short-term care grades, we size up the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is generally a meaningful measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Given its poor score in this area, we were not shocked to find that this place provided significantly fewer registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 37.5 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
