Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it received an A. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

The second highest area we awarded this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. We were extremely impressed to find that this facility offers its residents substantially more physical therapist hours than most other nursing homes. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place fared well in this metric with 60.2 percent of its patients returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

Unfortunately, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which is well below average in this category. For residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 96.65272 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was far less favorable. We found that this place had 2.22 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a concerning rate.

The final category we assessed was nursing, where this nursing home received a poor grade in this category as well. We gave it an F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Our nursing rating is based on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This facility provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. This nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
