Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its high marks in the area of long-term care. We awarded them an A- in this category, which salvaged an otherwise weak profile. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 65.34884 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a bit less than we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. With 1.81 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this place is just about middle of the pack in this area.

In addition, we gave this facility a B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our better grades. Short-term care ratings are vital for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any facility in this area with 62.9 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.

Historical

This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, we want to point out that this nursing home was assessed significant government fines in recent years amounting to over $100,000. This typically signifies that a bad track record has been an issue for several years.

The last area we rated is nursing. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in that category. There are many subcategories within this area. Most of the criteria are tied to nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
