Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

On top of receiving a great overall score, this nursing home also earned first-rate health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category, with an A-. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's impressive category scores came in the category of long-term care. We awarded them one of our stronger scores in that category, with a score of B+. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.33333 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. We assessed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in computing our score in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we graded is short-term care. We gave this facility an acceptable grade in this area, with a B-. While this is not as favorable as a few of its other scores, it is nevertheless not a bad grade. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.
