Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a grade of A. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many deficiencies flagged. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second most favorable area was long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a C. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This place keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's third best category was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still performed relatively badly. In our short-term care category, we seek to create a fair measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Given its score in this area, we weren't stunned to find that this place was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we rated was nursing. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in this category. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
