Facility Inspections
While we gave this place a poor overall grade, we gave it a B for our inspections category. This is the result of the nursing home receiving a decent inspection report this year. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this nursing home received a reasonably solid short-term care rating this year. We awarded it a B- in that area. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. The facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. When calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we rated is long-term care, where this facility was given an abysmal grade here as well. It received an F for this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 92.72031 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
