Although we gave this nursing home a horrible overall grade, we gave it an A- for our inspections score. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this place still had a relatively positive inspection report.

Incredibly, we gave this facility a grade of C for our short-term care score, which really isn't a bad grade. In computing our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is generally a reliable measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this nursing home and discovered this was this facility's strongest datapoint within this area. It performed well in this metric with 57.7 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.

Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in that area. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. Once we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated just 90.239044 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility fared poorly with 3.09 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this statistic is nearly twice the national average.

The next area we assessed was nursing. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is an abysmal grade. Our nursing grade assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This facility averaged just 2.8 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based measures to go along with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing score significantly.
