Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an D. Our nursing score is based on many datapoints, however, the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the area of long-term care, this facility received just a D in this area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.44751 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to our last area, we awarded this facility a grade of D for the area of short-term care. This was the facility's weakest category grade. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Based on its grade in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
