Facility Inspections
While we gave this facility a poor overall grade, we gave it a B for our inspections category. This was the result of the facility receiving a quality inspection report this year. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note this facility's low-end short-term care grade where it was given an F. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for people needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its weak rating in this area, we were not shocked to discover that this place provides significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
Another issue is the F this nursing home was given in the area of long-term care. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 90.0232 percent of its residents. This is multiple points below average. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
The last area we rated was nursing. This facility was given an abysmal grade of F in this category. In determining our nursing scores, we analyze both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. On top of ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this place also had poor marks in the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place was at about 1.5 times the national average in both of these metrics. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These metrics helped pull down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
