Short-term Care Quality
In addition to performing well overall, this facility received high marks in the area of short-term care as well. It received our highest grade in that category with an A+. In determining our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is typically a meaningful measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more than seven hours of care per week from registered nurses to each resident. This is really the gold standard in this area, as it's about 50% higher than the average facility's level of registered nurse staffing. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. It performed as well as just about any facility in Oklahoma in this area with 66.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
Turning to inspections, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. The nursing category is based on many factors, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the better figures we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is long-term care. This nursing home received an impressive long-term care grade in our assessment, with a grade of B-. While this wasn't as strong as many of its other scores, this is nevertheless an acceptable grade in that area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After assessing the very respectable amount of nursing hours provided by this facility, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than many nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.69 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
