Even though we gave this facility a poor overall score, we gave it a fairly respectable grade in nursing, where it received a B-. This was certainly better than its other category grades. Our nursing rating analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This facility offers 3.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which more than an hour of those were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We add more weight to these skilled nursing hours in computing our nursing scores. While this facility excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it fell short in certain datapoints that related to quality. This facility's nursing rating was pulled down by poor performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 13 percent of this nursing home's patients suffered from pressure ulcers.

The next most favorable category we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The final statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 36 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

This facility earned a solid government inspection report this year as well. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a score of B-. We were surprised this nursing home received three grades of this caliber. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Historical

Turning to our final category, this nursing home really did not perform well here either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.333336 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this facility also wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Although it had 2.46 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric wasn't bad since it had more complex patients.
