Nurse Quality
While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a somewhat respectable nursing score this year. We gave it a B- in this category. The nursing category analyzes several factors, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provides an impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Lastly, we also considered some quality-based assessments. This place scored well in some of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place beat the national average. This is often a reliable indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we gave this facility a grade of B- for our short-term care rating, which is not too bad of a score. Short-term care ratings are important for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 35.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure is below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also didn't fare poorly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a C in that category, which happens to be among its higher grades. With our long-term care rating, we look at the amount of services provided by a nursing home, as well as a few quality datapoints. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 95.20295 percent of its patients, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Although it had 3.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was better than most facilities since it had some more complicated patients.
Facility Inspections
Turning our last category of inspections, this facility received an abysmal grade. When a place has this bad of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
