This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

This nursing home performed well in the category of nursing. We awarded it an B- for that category, which is one of our best grades. When calculating our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

The third highest category we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. In forming these short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The question is whether this also impacted quality of care. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

The final category we analyzed is long-term care, proved to be this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this facility a D in this area. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.47644 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
