Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, it also performed well in inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Compounding its dominant achievements in other areas, we gave this facility a grade of A for its short-term care score. Our short-term care ratings are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.5 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Turning the page to our third area, we awarded this facility a grade of A for its long-term care score. This is a very impressive score. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final category, we gave this facility a grade of A for its nursing score. This topped off an elite report card. We analyzed the licensure of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses were with residents, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning patients even once per day.
