Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient safety or health. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in the country with 67.2 percent of its patients returning home.

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. When calculating a facility's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with residents and the level of skill of those nurses. This place provided 5.1 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is among the more impressive figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these statistics. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is usually a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly moving patients to avoid bed sores.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our final area, this facility received a strong long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a B+ in that category, completing one of our better profiles. In addition to offering very favorable levels of nurse staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This figure is also far better than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations.
