Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we were able to find information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its elite accomplishments in other areas, we awarded this facility a score of A- for its long-term care grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. This facility performed favorably enough in these metrics to earn a quality score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. This nursing home is substantially above the national average in terms of its quantity of both registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients. It supplied approximately 1.5 times as much care per resident from both of these care providers than the average facility provided. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the fourth category, this nursing home received a very strong nursing rating. We awarded it a B+ in this category, topping off one of our finer report cards. The nursing score includes many components, most of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 8.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the country in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
