Long-term Care Quality
In addition to its strong overall score, we gave this facility an impressive grade of A- for our long-term care grade. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.2699 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.93 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home was just about middle of the pack in this area.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed as well in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. When determining our nursing scores, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides an impressive 4.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is among the higher totals in Kansas. Finally, we also looked at a few nursing quality-based metrics and this facility actually excelled in some of these. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Kansas in this category. This is typically a fairly accurate measure of quality nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Our final category is short-term care, where we gave this nursing home a B- in this category. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home performed better in this statistic. We found that it performed better than most facilities in this metric with 50.2 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, at most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
