Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this category with an A+. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another strength of this facility is its impressive grade in long-term care. We gave them one of our most impressive grades in that area, with a grade of A. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.13419 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. The last datapoint we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 3.35 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this area, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Nurse Quality
Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. Our nursing grade includes several subcategories, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. On top of its weak nursing hour totals, this facility earned suboptimal scores in many of the quality-based metrics we considered in calculating our nursing ratings. We found that a higher percentage of this nursing home's residents experienced falls which led to major injury.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated is short-term care, which is this nursing home's weakest area. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this area, which is certainly very concerning. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. It appears that this nursing home was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the data we looked at. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 17.7 percent of its residents returning home.
