Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To go along with its impressive overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A for our nursing score. The nursing score is based on a handful of datapoints, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in inspections, where it received an A-. Inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not necessarily something to panic about.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a favorable short-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that category with a score of B+. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to grade a facility's rehabilitation services In order to provide highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Turning to the next category, this nursing home received an acceptable long-term care score. Although this is not quite as impressive as some of its other category grades, this is still a middle of the pack score. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. We were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 33.898304 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a bit lower than the national average. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
