Facility Inspections
While we were fairly low on this facility overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection scores are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's next most respectable category is short-term care, but it still received just a D in that category. This turns out to be a relatively poor score. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Based on its score in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the figures we looked at. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of residents that returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.2 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in this category. For residents in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 97.01492 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored is nursing. This nursing home received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this category. The nursing score weighs several components, but the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Unfortunately, this place also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this nursing home's nursing score significantly.
