Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing rating features a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided 5.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This was one of the highest figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of offering high levels of care, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. For example, it performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. These are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility offers.
Facility Inspections
Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
In the next category we analyzed, this facility received superb marks in the category of short-term care. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that area with a of A+. Short-term care grades are commonly used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home elevated its grade in this area by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the typical nursing home. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this metric with 69.3 percent of its residents returning home. With most facilities, less than half of their short-term patients are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our last area, this nursing home was awarded an excellent long-term care score. We gave it a B+ in this area, rounding out one of our more favorable report cards. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 93.75 percent of its residents, which is slightly lower than we anticipated. The last statistic we assessed is the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the pack in this area.
