Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to earning a strong overall rating, this facility performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the nursing home's recent government inspection reports. We gave it an A for that area, which is one of our best scores. Inspection grades are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B+. Nursing scores are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a patient more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to the next area, this facility also earned a score of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is a well above average grade in this category. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we graded is long-term care, in which this facility received a B-. Even though this ended up being its weakest category rating, this is nevertheless not a poor grade. Long-term care ratings are crucial for patients in need of personal care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. This facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
