Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Our inspection ratings are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that excel in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care grade. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to offering very impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.649574 percent of its residents. This percentage is also much better than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. While it had 2.25 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was close to the middle of the pack since it had some more complicated patients.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. With 4.9 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Finally, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients suffering falls which lead to major injury, this nursing home performed better than the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we looked at was short-term care, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in this category. Nevertheless, we would not assess this nursing home based only on a single area, as it was given some superb grades in other areas. In our short-term care assessment, we try to create a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this place's case, we found that it provided less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 26.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
