Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Our nursing grade is based on numerous datapoints. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This place boasts a really impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering falls resulting in major injury, this nursing home performed as well as any facility the nation.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its high-end resume, this nursing home also was given a superb short-term care score, with a grade of A. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is more often than not a useful measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who returned to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed most facilities in the nation with 54.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth category, this nursing home was awarded a high-end long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it an A- in that category, giving this facility straight A's. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the factors we considered on top of this nursing home's impressive nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the elderly. This combination proved to be effective as this facility also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.23 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
