Facility Inspections

In addition to earning a strong overall score, this facility fared even better in our inspections category which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We awarded it an A for that category, which is one of our best grades. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor dings aren't something to panic about.

Nurse Quality

Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term care grades are generally used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation To have highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final area we looked at was long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of C in that area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
