Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Additionally, we gave this facility a rock-bottom F in the category of long-term care. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 91.150444 percent of its patients. This is slightly less than we expected but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The third category we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home's received a bottom of the barrel short-term care grade where it was given an F. Our short-term care ratings are important for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.5 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final area we assessed is nursing. This facility received a very poor grade of F in this category. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this place's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
