Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this facility received an A+ inspection score. This is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a very impressive long-term care score. Indeed, this is its second strongest category score. In that category, we gave this facility a score of A. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A. Not many nursing homes fared better in this category. In our short-term care grade, we strive to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our next area, this nursing home also excelled in the nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A- in that category. This wrapped up a straight A report card. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
