Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given strong marks in the area of long-term care as well. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with a area of A. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. This facility's vaccination statistics lagged a bit behind a few of the other statistics in this area, such as its nursing hours. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 44.551723 percent of its patients. We'd love to see some improvement in this area next year. The last statistic we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 3.28 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this area, this number may be skewed for some facilities based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next highest category was short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a B-. In calculating our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is considered to be a fair assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility and found that this facility performed better here. In fact, this nursing home performed better than most facilities in the nation with 53.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we assessed is nursing. This facility was awarded a favorable nursing grade this year, with a B-. Although this is not as impressive as some of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent grade in that category. In computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are with residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This particular facility provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, we also factored some quality measures into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
