Although this facility's overall score was abysmal, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of short-term care. In fact, we gave it a B- for that category, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, this was not enough to spare its otherwise poor profile. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was a much stronger area for this facility. We found that it outperformed most facilities in this metric with 59.3 percent of its patients returning home.

This nursing home really didn't perform horribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it a C for that category. Other categories were the source of its rock bottom overall grade. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. This place was hit with 10 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent danger to resident safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. We gave it a score of D for that category, which is one of our best grades. Nursing grades are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility offered just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This place was above average in two of the major datapoints we considered, with good scores for avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

The final category we assessed is long-term care, where this facility received an abysmal score here also. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility vaccinated only 83.55795 percent of its patients, which is several points lower than we expected. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.54 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
