Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place turned out to be a great nursing home is it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility fared well in the category of short-term care. As a result, we gave it a score of A for that area, which happens to be one of our higher grades. Short-term care grades are often used to grade a facility's rehabilitation services. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This facility is markedly above the national average in terms of its quantity of both registered nurse and physical therapy hours available to its residents. The facility offered approximately 50% more care per resident from both of these care providers than the average facility provided. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Illinois in this area with 60.5 percent of its patients returning home. With most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. Our nursing rating includes a handful of subcategories, most of which are based on nursing hours. According to staffing data, this nursing home averaged 4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Approximately one quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are among the more highly skilled nurses. These are both above average figures. Finally, this place was relatively weak in some of the major areas we look at, with subpar scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home was given a favorable long-term care rating in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this wasn't as strong as several of its other category grades, this remains a decent rating in that category. In computing our long-term care grades, we analyze the assistance with daily living offered to the facility's residents. After considering the very respectable amount of nursing hours provided by this facility, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.93617 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which appears to be higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 4.73 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number can be skewed for some facilities due to the medical complexity of patients.
