Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in this category with an A. Our inspection grades are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility performed well in the category of nursing. We awarded it an B- for that category, which is one of our best grades. Our nursing grade is mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. Although this place got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning a patient more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its third most favorable category grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this category, which is an acceptable score. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to our last category, this facility was given a grade of C for long-term care, which we consider to be a decent score. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.22222 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
