To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this nursing home provides approximately one and a half times as many hours of services from registered nurses and physical therapists than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually an excellent sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 64.5 percent of its patients returning home.

This nursing home also received a virtually flawless government inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. This was one of the few places to receive multiple A+ category grades. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. We weighed the levels of nurses at the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home provided 5.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This was one of the better totals we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also performed well in many of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering falls which lead to serious injury, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is often a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The next category we assessed was long-term care. We gave this nursing home an acceptable grade in this area, with a B-. Even though this wasn't as strong as many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless nothing to be ashamed of. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the skilled therapy and healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to assessing the very respectable level of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the nursing home's vaccination record. By way of example, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive total. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
