Facility Inspections
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, it also received A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were nearly flawless. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given strong marks in the category of long-term care as well. In fact, we awarded it one of our most superb scores in that category with a score of A. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.907104 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. The last datapoint we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 3.9 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the medical complexity of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is generally a reliable measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that it fared better than most facilities in this area with 55.2 percent of its residents returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we rated is nursing. This facility received a better than average nursing score this year, with a grade of C. Even though this isn't nearly as good as some of its other scores, this remains an acceptable rating in this category. There are numerous criteria included in this grade. Many of the subcategories relate to nurse staffing. This facility provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed admirably in this datapoint.
