Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to receiving a quality overall score, this nursing home also earned excellent health inspections recently. We awarded it one of our highest grades in that area, with a grade of A-. Inspection scores are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is really what you want to see on an inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was dominant in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Not many facilities fared better in this area. In our short-term care category, we try to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at the facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. The nursing grade features a host of datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category, this nursing home also received a very strong long-term care grade, with a B+. This completed an elite profile. Facilities that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.6 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
